Smart cameras

Opportunities for municipalities and organizations

The ‘smart city’ has become indispensable in public spaces. The basis for this are smart cameras. It is often thought that these solutions are only available for (large) cities. That is not true. Smart cameras also offer numerous opportunities for smaller municipalities, and for companies and organizations.
VCS realizes camera systems with smart cameras for large and smaller (public) organizations. We have a wealth of experience with customers such as municipalities, public transport companies and in industry.

What is a smart camera?

Smart cameras can do much more than generate images. They have built-in software and supporting programs. For example, they can count how many people are on the street and what types of vehicles pass by.
In some cities, as a driver you are already guided to an available parking space. Because a smart camera sees that it is free. This is of course also possible in the parking garage of companies or other organizations.

Huge amounts of data

A smart camera is therefore not just an image generator, it is a sensor that can generate enormous amounts of data. For example, smart cameras are used for crowd management. Or for checking vehicles that double park (for example at coffee shops).
Another example is the detection of mopeds on promenades where they are not allowed. Firstly, to ensure targeted enforcement. Detecting mopeds at specific locations can also be a precursor to, for example, a robbery of a jewelery store.

Video content analysis

With advanced video content analysis (VCA) software you can further expand the possibilities of smart cameras. In addition to the built-in camera intelligence, VCA analyzes the camera data and can quickly recognize things.
Through artificial intelligence (AI) the camera can also learn what is a normal behavioral pattern. This is a source of information for municipalities and agencies, which are increasingly using smart city data for policy issues.

Deviant behavior pattern

If the camera knows what is a normal behavior pattern, then the camera also knows what is not. At that moment, the camera can give an active alarm of an abnormality in the camera surveillance room. They can then, for example, engage a boa.
Immediately identifying abnormal behavior contributes to safety. Consider violence detection. The control room then receives an active alarm of certain movements associated with violence (fights). This makes camera surveillance more effective and (cost) efficient.

From retail to industry

Pattern recognition offers more possibilities. For example in retail. Via VCA, smart cameras can recognize the movement pattern of possible shoplifters. The operator in the control room receives a signal.
In addition, our systems support daily operations in industry, among others. For example in the manufacturing industry, petrochemicals and transport companies. Our cameras record processes such as loading and unloading and make this transparent for the operators.

World to win

There are many examples of applications of smart cameras. At the same time, there is still a world to be won when it comes to the application of smart cameras and VCA. Certainly also for smaller municipalities and companies.
Cameras can do so much more than many people realize. From recognizing the formation of smoke and traffic jams to an assembly line filling up. Would you like to know more about this? Contact us, we will be happy to tell you more.

Sustainability

For us, sustainability is an integral part of our strategy. We work on circularity, we reduce our CO2 emissions and our energy consumption. We bring sustainability and social responsibility to the attention of colleagues, suppliers and customers.
Our vehicle fleet is almost entirely electric. Even the work buses. As a result, our employees drive around emission-free. Our mechanics drive around in a Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo. They work throughout the country.
